History

It is with a sense of profound reverence and commitment towards Lord Shiva that we, at Sri Gangadhareshwara Trust, established in 1994.

In 1994, Sri Chowda Reddy who was then an MLA and Minister visited the hill range for official purposes. Inspired by a beautiful vision, Sri Chowda Reddy started our temple on the majestic hillside. With the help of experts and the talented sculptor, Late Ganapathi Stapathi, we began by carving a small cave temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. This was the humble beginning of our journey.

Over the past three decades, our humble beginnings have blossomed into a monumental endeavor. The trust has successfully carved approximately 20,000 square feet of interconnected caves at the base of the hill, making this the largest man-made cave temple complex after the historic Ajanta and Ellora caves.

The journey, spearheaded by Sri. Chowda Reddy, supported by philanthropists and devout believers, witnessed the consecration of Vallabha Ganapati (1995), Chaturmukha Linga, and Devi Jagadamba (1996), with regular poojas kindling the spiritual essence of the complex. Progressively, a large hall and adjacent yaga shalla were carved, facilitating the accommodation of up to 400 devotees and the performance of masa Shivaratri Homa alongside Girija Kalyanam.

With the Lord’s blessing, we embarked on carving the largest cave within the complex and are currently shaping a Swayambhu Linga, anticipated to reach completion in the next six months. This endeavour is complemented by our commitment to Anna Danam since 2001.

Our commitment to the work remains strong and our hearts are filled with purest intentions and faith for the Lord. We are confident that we will overcome these hurdles in the next six months.

As we approach the momentous occasion of consecrating the Swayambhu Linga, a culmination of years of dedication and spiritual devotion, we extend to you a heartfelt invitation.
